Want to challenge your true parenting ability? Attempt to get your three children (all under the age of 5) to lie next to one another in a bed to photograph their feet. The feet feat truly lies in working to suppress the natural tendencies of any of the following situations (I’ll put this into generic terms for n+1 children) :
- Getting any male child to ignore the ‘use this time to aggravate your sibling’ gene
- Convincing the child next to the baby that it’s not toxic or vicious – nor will it’s crying inflict bodily harm
- Keeping children in the middle of the “twizzler pack” from catching a case of the “wiggly worm”
- Having your children believe that just because they are lying under a blanket, this does not mean that they are magically in a cone of silence – you can still hear them and you know they can hear you
- While great fun, ‘poofing’ up the blanket during the shoot doesn’t actually enhance the photo
The kids had a pretty good time – Isabella was proud at her ability to follow directions. Jacob was proud that he managed to lie in bed and not actually have to touch Charlotte (and still constantly move his feet like he was Michael Jackson doing the moon walk without drawing a red card from Dad).
Mom was proud that the picture turned out. Dad was proud that it took less than 200 pictures to get one that made Mom proud.

On June 23, at 6:45 AM, Charlotte decided to grace us with her grand entrance at a time and date of her own choosing. Weighing in at 6 pounds 8 ounces she was just as precious as can be. She hardly cried and while trying to ascertain her new surroundings, she instantly sighed and relaxed once placed on Mom. Nothing like a mother’s touch.

One of the rare instances when we captured our children’s affection for one another. When they’re not deliberately driving each other crazy, they really do get along.

When he wants to be, he can be a real ham.
…that is when you can get him to sit still long enough to take a picture – and get him to look at you – and get him to smile at the right time.
But he’s always cute – sometimes he’s just looking the other way. Today, there was fun to be had playing with the ‘butterflies’ from the Elephun or whatever it’s called. Jacob and Izzy just call it ‘butterflies’ and usually have a blast seeing what falls into their nets (when they’re not arguing over who gets which net out of the 4 we have).

We had some excitement, if that is what you’d like to call it, behind our house today at about 4:30PM. Apparently, the neighborhood electrical grid wasn’t ‘upsized’ appropriately when the duplexes that previously occupied our lots were replaced by the new homes on our street. I learned from the electricity delivery provider that we had 9 homes being powered from a transformer designed to only supply 4 homes our size. It’s amazing that it lasted this long – and actually it ended up only melting the wiring past the load it could handle.
This was the result.

It started a fire in the neighbor’s yard across the alley, and the fire department was here within 10 minutes to put it out (incredible response time!)
Oncor came out late this evening and installed a brand new additional transformer, and split the load across three transformers (rewiring the service delivery to all 9 homes). They said we’d have power restored by 9:30 – and by 9:29, we did. Pretty amazing stuff and I watched them orchestrate two large bucket trucks in the service-way through the whole thing.

…this is Jacob’s new favorite phrase. This usually is presented in sniper fashion as he will rapidly appear from nowhere and exclaim “WHATDOOIN?” and exit just as rapidly when he receives a response.
